Trump’s Plans for Education – American Board Blog

Former and now President-Elect Donald Trump has won a second term as U.S. President. How will his election impact schools near you? Read on to learn about Trump’s plans for education.

Donald Trump’s 2024 Education Policy Promises

President-Elect Trump’s education policy centers on school choice, cultural values, and reducing federal intervention in schools. He proposes cutting federal funding for schools that teach critical race theory and gender identity. Trump has pledged to investigate schools for race-based discrimination, particularly cases impacting Asian American students. Trump is aiming to shift control back to parents and local communities. Additionally, these policies reflect his focus on accountability within the education system.

A key part of his plan is expanding school choice. Trump supports more charter schools, vouchers, and homeschooling options, arguing these alternatives give parents control over their children’s education. Trump is also interested in career-readiness for students and increased access to technical education. He also suggests ending teacher tenure and updating certification standards to ensure teachers align with local values.

For teacher certification and development initiatives, Trump has not outlined details like federal incentives or support for national certifications. Instead, it appears he’s leaving state and local authorities as primary drivers for any changes in this area.

Trump frames his key education issues as protecting “parental rights” in education. Supporters see these policies as empowering parents, while critics warn they could limit educational diversity and reduce federal oversight.
